What is holistic massage therapy?
Holistic comes from a greek word meaning ‘whole’. So this form of massage deals with the person as a ‘whole’.
A holistic massage is an individual massage treatment that is specifically tailored to each client. A true holistic massage is unique, following no fixed routine and focusing on more than just superficial aches and pains.
A holistic approach treats the body as a whole, and a holistic massage therapist takes into account a client's emotional and spiritual well-being, as well as their physical body. The aim is to rebalance the body so it achieves homeostasis or balance.
The training and continuing professional development for the therapist is quite extensive, as it not only covers massage, but also anatomy and physiology, nutrition and general health. The therapist massages the person, not just their body, working 'with' the client rather than giving a massage 'to' them.
Holistic massage concentrates on both the mind and the body. It can rejuvenate and relax, making you better prepared for dealing with the day to day stresses we all face.
The massage releases negative energy and toxins so the body is balanced and filled with positive energy. This promotes health and well being. Aching muscles, headaches, stress and tension are all relieved with holistic massage. The benefits can be felt immediately. However, it also has long lasting effects to help increase overall health.
When you are relaxed and have a positive mindset, you are less likely to get ill or suffer the effects of minor aches, pains and illnesses.
